Époc - Space-time travel app
2021 - Design Challenge for a job hiring process
(All text in deliverables are in Brazilian-Portuguese).
Applying to a job interview in Brazil, I’ve participated in a make-believe test about space-time travels 🤓.
Problem Statement
The problem statement for this test had a few key points worth noting:
- Users must be able to travel through time with seconds precision;
- Users must be able to travel to any location (no precision specified);
- The app should give information that allowed users to know how to dress themselves;
- In the statements of the test, users have had issues in the previous version of the app and ended up travelling to problematic events. They asked for solutions that avoided said issues.
- The brief lacked information about brand identity and company name or product name;
I've created a Notion board in order to illustrate the agile environment that I'm used to work and also to document my Design Process.
To better guide my decisions, I’ve created the missing materials including:
- User journey
- Thesaurus
- Brand Identity
- Prototype
- Assumptions note (for example: I’ve assumed the technology of the “jump” would take care of avoiding any danger to users, teleporting them to the nearest safe checkpoint).
Here are a few screenshots for a quick preview:
Discovery
The Discovery step was obviously fictional. Most of the input were based of the problem statement and then complemented by friends roleplaying and by some of my own imagination as well.
Prototype
After preparing the base material, I then started making the interface. The user flow was straight-forward and I’ve organized it with two starting options:
1. A simple combo of Search and Explore or,
2. A precise event selection

What’s next?
Some quick-wins that could be applied to this solution:
1. Filters for search and explore
2. A photo/video gallery for showing more details about the destination
2.a. Fashion/Clothing etiquete
2.b. Surrounding landscape
2.c. Climate conditions
Other features I thought about it, but couldn’t find the time to develop:
1. A social media gamification
1.a. Where people could show their “stamps” on visited destinations
1.b. Awards for completing some collection of destinations
1.c. Sharing of medias
2. A 3D preview of the destination
3. The original statement mentioned the traveler would continue their flow with a local agency specialized in this kind of tourism. I also thought of integrating notifications, billing, schedule, etc, between Époc and a couple of agencies, but it would far exceed the time constraints and the scope of this B2C solution, becoming more of a B2B2C marketplace solution.
Extra notes
As this project is intended to demonstrate my rationale, I focused rather on showing how I work with a holistic approach, then to create complex motion design or extra features.
One thing I think could be better, though, is rather then assuming that the underlying technology would just have the ideal UX, avoiding dangers and such (as noted on my Notion notebook), I wish I had dedigned the many validations and feedbacks users could get while choosing their event destination, as opposed to just listing them.
I also intentionally did not dedicated efforts on thinking about pricing and businesses model, as that was not asked for, but I wish I had the time to brainstorm on this.
A really fun project overall!
